Bruce & Clarence.
Sept 22, 1974 ·
September 22, 1974, it is the one of the first live show with the 2 newest members of the E Street Band, Max and Roy. Born to Run was still being recorded and the band was trying out the new material to a small college crowd at a rare free outdoor concert. Here is another rare shot of Bruce in his peacock shirt with that classic Fender. Nobody at this show knew the names Max or Roy yet — they'd only just joined the band. Born to Run was still half-finished back at the studio. Bruce and Clarence sharing one frame — |
This one is part of The 1974 Collection — a small set of frames from one of the rarest shows I ever shot. Archival giclée pigment print, limited edition, signed and numbered. Limited Edition Fine Art Photography — Signed, Numbered, and Authentic. Own a rare, signed, and numbered photograph capturing the energy, intimacy, and legacy of Bruce Springsteen & hundreds of Classic Rockers — through the lens of one of rock’s most trusted photographers. |

“Once had a love and it was a gas ~
Soon turned out had a heart of glass.”
This photograph of the one, the only Debbie Harry of the infamous punk band Blondie was taken by James Shive on a rainy night at the legendary and now defunct Palladium Theater, New York City, 1978. The image captures Harry at the height of her beauty ~ strong, sensual, and unmistakably iconic. With long, sexy legs and that cool, effortless Blondie allure, Harry embodies the very spirit of punk rock at its peak, a moment in time that’s gone forever but burns on in this image. Shive’s rare ability to shoot live concerts with the intimacy and clarity of a studio portrait gives this photograph its striking power and timelessness. If you were there, then you remember why this period was so special in music’s evolution. Preserved in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Shive’s work is revered for a reason—and this image, available only in large print sizes, is a standout piece for any serious collector.

New Year’s Eve 1981
Shot by James Shive on New Year’s Eve 1981 at Nassau Coliseum, this B & W image of Bruce Springsteen and Clarence Clemons hits with pure rock-and-roll power—capturing the chemistry, brotherhood, and unstoppable energy that would define their 30-year partnership. Taken before Born in the U.S.A. and before the many twists in Bruce’s life and band, this photograph freezes the E Street Band at its raw, iconic core. With over nine dozen sold in signed limited editions, it remains one of the most sought-after Springsteen collector pieces. Now being offeredin a new large format Giclee Print and with Shive’s archive tightly controlled and never mass-produced, this is the Springsteen gift fans dream of—

The Paino Man
There was not control of the lighting, you were at the mercy of the lighting folks at the sound board and the sometimes a spotlight. Often times, the low red cans shining down from the rafters were the only dim rays on your subject. You could adjust your exposure, change a lens and hope for a clear path between you and the artist … but there were always obstructions, monitors, mic stands or wires, lots of wires. Sometimes the only way to capture an artist was to move, move to the left or right and when the appropriate access was granted to you, move backstage. A few keys from the piano and a small glimpse of the harmonica are the only clues to know this is the back view of the Piano Man, Billy Joel. Photographed 1975

Steve makes for some awesome images!
Over the years, I’ve had the great pleasure of having rare access to photograph Steve, live in concert, and as one can imagine, it was always tons of fun because who else can pull off the outrageous looks and clothes that Bruce’s consigliere is so famous for?!
Steve makes for some awesome images!
But now, thanks to producer Bill Teck, the immense depth and breadth behind the man, Steve Van Zandt, comes to the big screen and what a story his life tells. Bill did a fantastic job too!!
I have rarely, if ever, made these images available to the public. Many of them have only appeared in publications over the years. Now I bring not only the image that appeared in "Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple,” but a few other choice selections to you. Get ‘em while they are made available for this short time. Enjoy.

Peter Townshend of The Who
Pete Townshend
Driving in New York City one afternoon I hear the DJ on WNEW FM talking to Pete Townshend live in the studio, not wanting to miss a rare opportunity, I drive past the station and see a black limo parked outside the door. I parked illegally and quickly jumped out with my camera in hand just as Pete walked out the door. He stopped and posed for a few images shook my hand chatted for a few moments and drove away. Happy 81st Birthday Pete.
